All students have visited the library this week and most have begun checking out books! Next week, all classes will get to check out books, so please ask your children about what books they are finding in the library and feel free to contact me with suggestions for books to purchase or what you would like your child to be reading.
The first week of school is over and 1st-5th grade students had their first library visit. We discussed the expectations and began or filled out surveys about ourselves as readers. I will use this information to make book purchase choices and structure lessons. During week two, most classes will get to start checking out books! Students came in the first class asking if they would be able to check out right away and I am happy for their excitement!
Hello Parents and Students,
I hope everyone had a great summer and is ready to get back to school! I just returned from a conference for librarians and am getting lots of ideas for getting this year off to a great start. Some changes and goals for this year: 1. In the past, lost book costs were forgiven once, at the end of the year. This means everyone got to start with a clean fine (money owed) slate, but those who happened to lose a book in October (and could not afford to replace it) could not check out for the rest of the year. This year, I will waive lost book costs at the end of each quarter. Students will be able to check out again at the beginning of the next quarter, but will be limited to paperback books for at least the next quarter. 2. I will take more pictures of students in the library and create a Flicker page to share these photos of your children involved with books and literacy. 3. I will take more pictures of new books and post about books as they come in. 4. I will update the blog every Friday afternoon, so check in to see what your children have been up to in the library! Sincerely, Ms. Lowe |
