The Monarch Book Club has begun meeting after school in preparation for the Monarch Award Challenge at the Champaign Public Library! We are reading the books together at our weekly meetings after school and thinking of questions that might be asked at the battle. If your child is one of the 23 children in the club, please read the books together at home, so that they can be better prepared if they make it into the Challenge. Unfortunately only 12 students can represent BTW, so those invited to the challenge will be selected based on club attendance and book knowledge.
Welcome to the Booker T. Washington STEM Academy Library Webpage!
I am Ms. Laura Lowe, the school library educator. My 3rd year at BTW has gotten off to a great start. I see students of all ages excited to return to the library (and Kindergarteners visiting it for the first time). We are ready to begin checking out books and to learn how to properly use the library materials. I am originally from the Chicago area and got my Masters in Library and Information Science from The U of IL. During grad school I ran an afterschool program at BTW. After graduating, I moved back north where I was a children's librarian in a public library. After 2 years, I decided to move back to Champaign to become BTW's librarian. I have two cats and love to roller skate and read realistic fiction and memoirs. Joining the library is Mrs. Timarie Lang, the school library clerk. She is in the library Mondays, Tuesdays, and Friday. Mrs. Lang recently moved to the area from San Diego so her husband can attend the Vet Med program at University of Illinois. Mrs. Lang and her husband are originally from Wheaton, Il and they are happy to be back. In previous years she has taught 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade, in addition to assisting special education and technology. She has two lovely dogs and loves to read, read, READ! Ms. Nicolle Rivera is joining us again this year as a volunteer. She is a graduate student at the U of IL's library school. |
